We at DAAC would like to send an open invite to all runners within the local area to come along to one of our training sessions.
I can say that before they joined, most members of our club have all been in the position that you are in now. Whether you want to improve your running or just want to get fitter, we have all seen members of DAAC out training and thought to ourselves that they were either too fast for me, I wouldn’t be able to keep up as I would be the slowest, I feel intimidated, I’ve never ran in a group before and I’m not sure if I will fit in. All I can say is come along and try us out!

DAAC is a friendly sociable club who like to get together not just for training but also for a good drink and a laugh! Our social committee organise 3 main social events each year as well as some adhoc events. Our main social events are:
Annual Summer Day Out: This typically takes place on the last Saturday in June and is usually some sort of activity during the day (voted on by members) followed by a meal, club prizegiving and plenty of laughs. The full day and night is partially financially subsidised by the club, with a small cost to members (typically £20/person)
Lochaber half marathon: Usually first Sunday in November. The club enjoy going to Fort William for the day to take part in Eddie’s half marathon, organised by Lochaber AAC. For all members running the race, as well as those just wishing to come and watch for a day out, the club organises return bus transport and an evening meal in Fort William. The club partially subsidises the cost of the bus transport to this event. Typical cost to members £25 (+race entry fee)
Christmas Night Out: Usually the second Saturday night in December. Our Christmas party night usually takes place at the Abbotsford Hotel in Dumbarton with a DJ, some (very bad!) karaoke, a buffet and lots of dancing. Bring your dancing shoes, your friends, partners, family. The cost of this is financially subsidised by the club with cost to members (and their friends/family) being typically £5/person.
Hope to see you at the next event! 🙂
Annual General Meeting
The club AGM is held at the end of the summer season each year – usually beginning of October. An agenda is circulated beforehand. All members are encouraged to attend to feedback to the committee, vote on office bearers, events and have their say in the club.

The following is a testimonial from one of our club runners who only joined us less that a year ago:
“Before joining the club my 10k times where about 44 - 45 minute mark and my half marathon time was 1hr 40 mins. I trained on my own with little or no speed work and only occasionally running longer than 6 mile. I felt it hard to motivate myself if it was cold, dark or wet so most of the winter was a no go. When I was training by myself I would have described myself as fit and felt this was as fast as I could go.
Joining the club was one of the best decisions I have made as my PB for the 10k is now 40.48 and I don't think it will be long till I’m under 40 mins, my half marathon time is now 1hr 31mins. The difference in my fitness since joining is significant; I can run longer and faster and over more days.
The club is brilliant there is loads of encouragement from everybody and there is a wealth of experience to tap into. Before I joined I worried about being the slowest member or not keeping up but its not like that, there is always someone to run with at your pace even as you improve, and the sessions are set up so that nobody gets left behind. The varied training and the club races help to make training sessions something to look forward to instead of something to dread and you get better without realizing it.
As well as improving my 10k time I have had the opportunity to try cross country, hill races and run for the club in relays which has added something different to me as runner and is great fun.
Finally the club has helped me make a lot of new friends and we always have a good laugh at training sessions, races and the club nights out.”
